Fundraisers

Wordland has always taken interest in helping others: institutions and communities in need. At the same time, Wordland has taken the initiative of organizing events meant to raise money for specific purposes.

One of these events, which is already a tradition for us, is the annual Charity Ball organized by the American International School of Bucharest. This highlight of the scene of spring events calls for causes such as upgrading the PC pool of the school, tsunami relief, and helping Romanian children in need.

We joined our efforts by offering since 2004 USD 5000 worth of services. We put on auction our courses with a lot of acclaim every year, made new friends, and helped raising money.

In 2004 we have participated in the fundraising for the revamping of the Anglican Church of Bucharest, organized and hosted by the Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Romania. Again, we have offered our courses on sale, and were very glad to give a helping hand for the cause.

On March 23, 2006 Wordland organized Wordland Spring Festival together with Second Chance, an association working to revitalize the community of Berceni, Romania. The event was a successful combination - first of all designed as a festival of Romanian spring customs and artifacts, then as a fair, where people could buy pottery, natural remedies, traditional carved wood objects, popular and contemporary art. An event organized for families, it brought together some 200 parents and children, it included cooking classes, pottery and egg-painting classes, as well as a children’s corner where children could draw, paint, design greeting cards, paint their faces, and have fun.

The event was a success - and Wordland staff helped young and old to learn new creative skills and to get more information about traditional Romanian art. Romanian cuisine and wines were valued by everyone, and so was the music that cheered up the audience. All the afternoon and evening, visitors came and left, products were sold like hot cakes and money was raised for the construction of a park in Berceni.

Romanian Conversation Clubs

Wordland International has organized so far three Romanian Conversation Clubs for clients and visitors who want to practice their Romanian and learn new things about Romanian culture, geography and history. Organized as a get-together evening for expats, the evening involved pleasant conversation, new information and delicious traditional foods. Many of the participants enjoyed the event also as a good networking opportunity, which meant making new friends, sharing experiences as expats in a country as puzzling and beautiful as Romania.
